Thyroid HealthAlso known as: TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) This is the standard first test to see whether your thyroid is working normally. TSH is a signal from the brain that tells the thyroid how hard to work. A high TSH usually means the thyroid is underactive, and a low TSH usually means it is overactive.
Consider this test if you have symptoms of thyroid problems, a family history of thyroid disease, an autoimmune condition such as type 1 diabetes, have recently had a baby, or are over age 60. Women are more likely than men to develop thyroid problems.
