Diabetes & Blood SugarAlso known as: Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) This test shows your average blood sugar over the last two to three months, rather than a single moment. It is used to screen for prediabetes, to diagnose diabetes and to see how well diabetes treatment is working. It does not need fasting, and one test gives a reliable long-term picture.
Recommended for adults over 35, and at any age if you are overweight or have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or a history of diabetes during pregnancy. People already living with diabetes are usually tested every 3 to 6 months.
